Art and About in Prague

Not only does Prague have many beautiful Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings, it also has many public sculptures littered through the city in places you wouldn't expect. A block from our hotel is Jaroslav Rona's Franz Kafka sculpture. Based on one of Kafka's stories, it is about a young man who is carried through the streets on the shoulders of another man. The man depicted in this sculpture is Franz Kafka.
David Cerny's Sigmund Freud sculpture hangs from a beam connected to a rooftop above a narrow lane way. You would miss it if you were distracted by the quaint shops in the old town area.

David Cerny's gigantic sculpture of Franz Kafka moves by rotating horizontal sections of the sculpture but not the day I photographed it. It's amazing because you can see the area in which it sits reflected in the various facets of the sculpture.

David Cerny's sculpture can also be found in the New Town in the Lucerne Palace's atrium in Wencelas Square. Cerny is poking fun at the statue of St Wencelas outside by having him sit on his upside down dead horse.
