A Colourful Introduction to Berlin

After the inclement weather of Rugen Island we headed for an extra night in Berlin. So our stay in the capital city extended to 3 nights so we could see more of what Berlin had to offer. It was also a significant place to end our holiday after touring the damage of WWII in the Czech Republic and Poland.
We spent our first afternoon strolling through the shopping district of Kurfürstendamm where we are staying at the Holiday Inn Express West Berlin.

Sections of the Berlin Wall can be found around the city adorned with street art. This example is next door to our hotel.
Our first dinner in Berlin was at the nearby Bavarian Restaurant in the Europa Centre on Tauentzienstrabe, the main shopping street near our hotel.

Next door to KaDaWe in a park is a street art installation called United Buddy Bears to represent countries of the world. The bear is the original idea of two masters students from Berlin University. It represents the heraldic bear of Berlin. Since then others have added to the concept and created installations around Berlin.
